Clashes between fans of two soccer clubs that were playing this Sunday in the final of a tournament in the city of N’zérékoré, located in the southeast of Guinea, have left at least 56 dead, according to provisional figures from the local government.
The incidents occurred as a result of referee decisions during a match between the Labé and N’Zérékoré clubs, which were competing for first place in a tournament dedicated to the leader of the Guinean military junta after the coup d’état in 2021, General Mamadi Dombouya.
Supporters of the two teams have been involved in a pitched battle, causing a stampede and riots in which Guinean Police have had to intervene using tear gas, reports Media Guinée and other local media.
