Havana, Nov 30 (ACN) Cuban Carlos Daniel Albornoz will try to maintain the perfect pace this Sunday at the Gran Hotel Bali 2024 International Chess Open, in the Spanish city of Benidorm, where three of the nine scheduled rounds have already been played.
The man from Camagüey has gone smoothly through an event in which he is the first seeded by Elo (2,572 points) and which brings together 207 players from 36 nations.
In this Saturday’s doubleheader he scored wins over the host Andrés Luque and the Polish Bartlomiej Rog. At the beginning, on Friday, he defeated the Englishman Ashley Stewart, and with such results he is ranked first by tiebreaker in a ranking in which eight other contestants also show perfect performance.
In his next outing he will have as an opponent the local Sergi Mingarro, another of those who has emerged victorious in all his presentations, although he appears in sixth place after applying the formula to undo hugs.
The Norwegian Semen Mitusov, the Armenian David Davtyan and the Malaysian Ying Tan Jun also make up the group of players with three successes, and who occupy positions one to nine.
In the main group of the competition, 15 men with the title of Grand Master move pieces and, as has been tradition, the competition includes open calls for amateurs and a segment of quick games.
