This surprise visit, likened to a New YearS gift, brought immense joy to the Cojoj team, led by President Mamadou Diagna ndiaye.
riner, a global judo legend with an unprecedented 11 world titles and three Olympic gold medals, met with Ndiaye and key members of the Cojoj team, including General Coordinator Ibrahima Wade, Sports Director Balla Dièye, and Communication Director Abdoulaye Kanouté.
ndiaye warmly welcomed Riner, expressing his profound admiration for the champion’s achievements and emphasizing the importance of Riner’s presence as a role model for young athletes. “This is your home, your office, your family,” Ndiaye declared, highlighting the inclusive spirit of the Dakar 2026 Games.
The visit transcended a simple courtesy call. Riner, deeply passionate about judo, engaged in a fruitful exchange of ideas with the Cojoj team, sharing his experiences and brainstorming strategies to promote judo progress in Senegal.
Adding further significance to the occasion, Ababacar Ngom, president of the Senegalese judo Federation, and his predecessor, Babacar Wade, joined the meeting.Together,they explored avenues for strengthening judo in Senegal,leveraging Riner’s expertise and global influence.

I truly believe in its power to inspire youth and foster positive change. Seeing Senegal, a country with a growing judo scene, aiming to host such a prestigious event is truly inspiring. It’s an opportunity to showcase African talent on a global stage and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

Your visit included meetings with not only the Cojoj team but also representatives from the Senegalese Judo Federation.Can you tell us more about those discussions and what you hope to achieve?

We discussed strategies to further develop judo in Senegal, from grassroots initiatives to providing support for young athletes and coaches.
Senegal has incredible potential in judo, and I believe by sharing my experiences and connecting with the local federation, we can help nurture that talent and create a sustainable pathway for success.
