Teenage Sensation Littler overcomes Early Jitters to Advance at Darts World Championship
Despite a significant age gap adn a shaky start, 17-year-old darts prodigy Luke Littler secured a resounding victory over veteran Ian White in the third round of the darts World Championship. The final scoreline of 4-1 showcased Littler’s resilience and growing dominance on the world stage.
Littler, who acknowledged the pressure of the tournament, admitted to feeling nervous before the match, recalling his slow start in his previous victory against Ryan Meikle. his initial performance reflected these nerves, averaging a modest 84.5 points in the first set and missing nine crucial double throws. White, though, failed to capitalize on these opportunities, allowing Littler to snatch a 2-3 victory in the set despite trailing 2-1 and having set darts.
The second set saw White, a seasoned competitor who had even faced Littler’s grandfather, Phil Littler, early in his career, threaten to take a commanding lead. He built a 2-0 advantage but ultimately faltered, allowing Littler to level the match at 1-1. Littler’s average improved slightly to 90.44 points, indicating a growing sense of control.
The third set saw Littler regain his composure, winning it without dropping a leg. However, White mounted a comeback in the fourth set, forcing a decider.Despite missing a crucial set dart on tops, White’s resilience was ultimately overshadowed by Littler’s determination. The teenager secured the set with a double 10 finish, raising his average to an impressive 96.72.
The final set was a formality, with Littler converting his first match dart on double 10 to seal a 3-1 victory. His next opponent in the round of 16 will be ryan Joyce.

Talking Darts: A Look at the young Guns Taking Charge
Welcome back to Talking Darts, everyone! We’ve got a thrilling World championship underway, rife with upsets, nail-biting finishes, and a new generation of throwers stepping into the limelight. Today,we’re joined by darts legend and former World Champion,Wayne mardle,to dissect some of the early tournament action, notably the unbelievable run of 17-year-old Luke Littler!
Wayne,Luke Littler’s performance against Ian White has been the talk of the tournament. Overcoming those initial jitters and battling back from a shaky start, he displayed phenomenal resilience. what were your key takeaways from that match?
Wayne Mardle: “Well, it wasn’t just resilience, was it? You could see the nerves in that first set, missing those doubles, but then he forced White to capitalize, which he didn’t. Littler found his stride, started hitting those treble 20s, and things started clicking. The crucial part was how he handled the pressure, even when White came back in the fourth set. That double 10 finish to close it out? Pure class. Reminds me of myself at that age, full of fight.”
Certainly, there was pressure on Littler’s young shoulders.
But even against seasoned veterans like White, who’s been playing against, Astonishingly, Littler’s grandfather back in the day, he didn’t crumble. We’re seeing a lot of powerful young talent emerging in darts. Do you think it’s the youth movement finally taking over the sport?
Wayne Mardle: “Its not just a movement, it’s a tidal wave! These young lads are fearless. They ain’t intimidated by names or history. Look at Ryan Searle breaking through last year. These players have grown up watching Fallon Sherrock, they’ve seen the crowds, they know what it takes. Maybe the older generation underestimated them, but these kids arrived ready to play.
Moving onto some other standout performers, Michael van Gerwen is looking imperious, as usual. He’s calmy dismantling opponents and cruising through his matches. Can anyone truly stop him from claiming another world title?
wayne Mardle: “MVG is the man to beat, no doubt about it. He’s playing his best darts when he needs to. He’s back to that laser focus we know so well. But, you mustn’t forget about the likes of Gerwyn Price when he finds his form, or even Peter Wright with the year he has had. A World Championship is a different beast altogether, and the pressure mounts with each round. Van Gerwen’s got the experience, but a single bad day could be all it takes.
It’s shaping up to be a World Championship for the ages, A burs bunch, fierce competition.
