Mark your calendars, badminton enthusiasts! The Southwest Conference’s Division 3 collegiate badminton league kicks off on Sunday, October 6th, 2024, with Cégep Marie-Victorin and Collège Dawson hosting the first thrilling tournaments of the season.
Prepare for an action-packed season with a total of eight tournaments, each showcasing the astonishing talent of these dedicated athletes. Here’s a sneak peek at the tournament schedule:
Fall 2024:
October 19th: Collège Montmorency takes center stage.
October 20th: Cégep de Valleyfield welcomes competitors.
November 9th: Cégep Marie-Victorin hosts another exciting showdown.
November 23rd: Collège Dawson steps up to the plate.
December 7th: Collège Dawson hosts again, keeping the momentum going. December 8th: Cégep Marie-Victorin rounds out the fall season.
Winter 2025:
January 26th: Collégial international Sainte-Anne and Collège Montmorency join forces for a double-header event.
Febuary 15th: collège Dawson and Collège Jean-de-brébeuf bring the heat.
* March 9th: Collège Champlain Saint-Lambert and Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf close out the regular season.
the Division 3 Regional Team Championships will culminate in a thrilling showdown at Cégep de Valleyfield on Sunday, March 23rd, 2025.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Division 3 athletes have the prospect to compete in the Division 2 Conference Individual championships at Collège Lionel-Groulx on Saturday, March 22nd, 2025, under specific eligibility conditions.
the ultimate test awaits at the Provincial Individual Championships, taking place at Cégep de Drummondville on Friday and Saturday, April 4th and 5th, 2025.

Backhand Blues and Volley Victories: A Chat with Badminton Legend, Jean-François Dupont
badminton fever is sweeping across Quebec! With the Southwest Conference’s Division 3 collegiate badminton season kicking off on October 6th, we’re in for a whirlwind of shuttlecock battles and breathtaking rallies. To get us fired up, we’re chatting with badminton titan, Jean-François Dupont, former national champion and current coach at Cégep Marie-Victorin.
Moderator: Jean-François, welcome! Excitement is already buzzing for the upcoming season. What are your thoughts on the packed tournament schedule, especially with two back-to-back events hosted by Cégep Marie-Victorin in the fall?
Jean-françois Dupont:
(chuckles) Well, it’s a rigorous schedule, that’s for sure. Hosting two tournaments in fast succession definitely keeps everyone on their toes, both players and staff! It’s great for visibility, though, and a real test of our players’ endurance and focus.
Moderator: Absolutely. Now, the Division 3 Regional Team Championships at Cégep de Valleyfield on March 23rd will be a high-stakes event. How do you think the regular season tournaments will impact the teams’ performance at the championship?
Jean-François Dupont:
The regular season is crucial for building momentum and identifying weaknesses. Every match is a learning opportunity. It allows teams to experiment with different lineups and strategies before the big showdown at Regionals.

It’s interesting you mention strategies. Do you think the opportunity for Division 3 athletes to compete in the division 2 Conference Individual Championships adds an extra layer of excitement for players aiming for individual glory?
Jean-François Dupont:
Definitely. I applaud the league for offering this opportunity. It pushes our athletes to strive for excellence, not only for their teams but also for themselves. Competing against higher-level opponents can be incredibly motivating and revealing.
moderator: Jean-François, the Provincial Individual Championships in April are the ultimate goal for many players. how do you prepare your athletes for such a high-pressure habitat?
Jean-François Dupont:
It’s all about a balanced approach.We focus on technical skills, physical conditioning, and mental toughness.Building confidence is vital,but so is teaching our players to handle setbacks and learn from their mistakes.
