RB Leipzig – Eintracht Frankfurt 3:0 (1:0)
RB Leipzig reached the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup with a 3-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt. Benjamin Šeško (31st) and Loïs Openda (49th + 58th) scored the goals.
Šeško scored the first goal with a low ball into the net past Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. In the second half, Openda (49th) made it 2-0 from close range. Shortly afterwards, the Belgian scored again from close range to make it 3-0. In the 80th minute, Hugo Ekitiké tried a shot on goal, but Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt saved.
VfL Wolfsburg – TSG Hoffenheim 3:0 (0:0)
TSG Hoffenheim lost 3-0 to VfL Wolfsburg lost. This means that Wolfsburg will reach the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. The goals were scored by Denis Vavro (63rd), Jonas Wind (67th) and Yannick Gerhard (85th).
Bence Dardai (20′) provided Wolfsburg’s first chance to score, narrowly missing the goal from a corner. Tiago Tomas (22nd/34th) had two good opportunities. At the end of the first half, national goalkeeper Oliver Baumann had to fend off a deflected cross from Ridley Baku (44th) just in front of the goal line. In stoppage time in the first half, an overhead kick from Joakim Maehle hit the crossbar (45th + 1).
In the second half, Denis Vavro (63′) finally scored with a free kick. The two substitutes Jonas Wind (67th) and Yannick Gerhardt (85th) secured the victory for Wolfsburg.
VfL has been unbeaten in seven games. For Hoffenheim it is the third defeat in just seven days in three different competitions. Wolfsburg are still two wins away from reaching the cup final for the third time.
FC Köln Hertha – Hertha BSC 2:1 (1:1, 1:1)
1. FC Köln won 2-1 against Hertha BSC. Ibrahim Maza scored for Berlin with a penalty in the 12th minute. An own goal from Florian Niederlechner (30th) gave Cologne the equalizer. It was only in extra time that Dejan Ljubicic (120+1) finally scored the winning goal.
The Berliners first took the lead with a penalty kick from Ibrahim Maza (12th). After an assault against Timo Hübers, Hertha’s Deyovaisio Zeefuik (25th minute) had to leave the field with a red card. Shortly afterwards, an own goal from Florian Niederlechner (30th) equalized.
In extra time, Ljubicic initially missed a goal that he thought was certain when he failed to shoot the ball into the empty goal from close range (100th). Shortly before the final whistle, however, he scored the winning goal (120+1).
