The students fought for medals and placings on five mats. The judoka from Cologne were particularly successful this year. In the women’s category, there were two first places for the University of Cologne with Helen Habib (up to 48 kilograms) and Eva Ronja Buddenkotte (up to 78 kilograms). Vincent Wieneke won gold for the men in his weight class up to 73 kilograms for the DSHS Cologne. With Nicolas Kutscher (LMU Munich, up to 60 kilograms), a German champion also prevailed at the DHM. Laila Göbel (Police Academy of Lower Saxony), medal winner at the Chengdu World University Games in China last year, achieved a favorite victory in the class up to 57 kilograms.
The team competitions were on the program on the second day of competition. In the mixed team competition, WG Leipzig prevailed 4-2 against WG Cologne in a new edition of the 2023 final. The WG Hannover and the WG Bonn took third place. The Newcomers Cup for judokas up to the green belt went to WG Cologne, who beat WG Bonn 4-3 in an exciting final and thus defended their title from the previous year. The WG Münster and the WG Hannover came in third place. There were 21 teams in the mixed team competition and 15 teams in the Newcomers Cup.
Anticipation for Rhine-Ruhr 2025 is palpable
The DHM received a special significance through the close cooperation with the implementing company of the Rhine Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games. The official venue plaque for the Walter Schädlich Hall was handed over to the city of Duisburg as part of the event.
Moritz Belmann, head of the adh judo discipline, was full of praise for the organizer and was completely satisfied: “We had optimal conditions here for holding the student title fights.” He welcomed Yannick van der on behalf of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games gGmbH Kolk, who is responsible for organizing the judo competitions in Essen next year.
