## Djurgården Eyes Olsson as Key Reinforcement for 2025
Djurgården IF is actively bolstering its squad for the 2025 season, with a focus on strengthening the midfield. Sources reveal that the Stockholm club has submitted a formal bid of €1 million (approximately 12 million SEK) for Heerenveen’s Simon Olsson. [[1]]
While sporting director bosse Andersson declined to comment on specific players, stating that “there will be a lot of speculation anyway,” the club’s pursuit of Olsson highlights their ambition to secure top talent. [[1]]
Olsson, a 27-year-old midfielder, boasts a wealth of experience. He made nearly 166 appearances for IF Elfsborg before transferring to Heerenveen in the summer of 2022, where he has since accumulated 89 appearances. Notably, Olsson was part of jon Dahl Tomasson’s first Swedish national team squad for friendlies against Portugal, Albania, and Denmark.
This potential acquisition comes amidst a period of transition for Djurgården. After securing Jani Honkavaara as their new head coach for the next three years, Andersson has been diligently assessing the current squad. Several players, including Haris Radetinac,Besard Sabovic, and possibly Jacob Une Larsson and Rasmus Schüller, are expected to depart at the end of their contracts.
The addition of Olsson would be a significant coup for Djurgården, injecting both quality and experience into their midfield. As the club navigates a period of change, securing a player of Olsson’s caliber would be a strong statement of intent for the upcoming season.
Djurgården’s Olsson Pursuit: A Masterstroke or Missed Prospect?
Welcome back to The locker Room! Today, we’re joined by former Swedish international midfielder, Anders Svensson, to dissect the latest transfer rumour swirling around Djurgården IF.
Anders, thanks for joining us. Djurgården has reportedly bid €1 million for Heerenveen’s Simon Olsson – a player who’s no stranger to the Allsvenskan. What are your initial thoughts on this potential move?
Anders Svensson: “Well, it’s certainly an interesting move.Simon’s a solid midfielder with a lot of Allsvenskan experience. He knows the league well, and that’s always a valuable asset. He’s also got international experience with the Swedish national team, which speaks volumes about his quality.”
Absolutely, experience is crucial, especially for a team like Djurgården going through a transitional phase. They’ve just appointed a new coach, and quite a few players are expected to leave. do you think Olsson would be the right fit for the team’s rebuilding project?
Svensson: “He could be. Djurgården needs experienced players who can lead on the field. Olsson has that leadership quality, and I think he’d be a good influence on the younger players coming through the ranks.
Though, €1 million is a notable investment.
It is indeed a sizable amount for a player at this stage in his career. Do you think it’s a fair price, considering Olsson’s age and performance levels?
Svensson: “That’s debatable. €1 Million for a 27-year-old with Olsson’s experience isn’t unreasonable in today’s market. But it’s a gamble. He needs to hit the ground running and prove he can still perform at the highest level.”
Djurgården is making some bold moves in the transfer market. Do you think this acquisition,if prosperous, would signal a return to the top for the club?
Svensson: “It’s too early to say. One player won’t necessarily transform a team. Much depends on how Honkavaara rebuilds the squad and integrates new signings. Olsson would be a good addition, but he needs the right support around him to truly shine.
What do you think Djurgården fans should be looking for from Olsson if he joins the club?
Svensson: “They should expect a hard-working, bright midfielder who can dictate the tempo of the game. Olsson is a good passer and has an eye for a goal. He’s not afraid to get stuck in either. I think Djurgården fans would be happy with his overall contribution.”
