Pierre: It’s a pleasure to be here.
Moderator: Your Dojo has seen tremendous success in recent years. The article we’re discussing highlights a consistent membership exceeding 150, with the 2023-2024 season concluding with 171 practitioners. This, coupled with strong early registrations for the upcoming season, speaks volumes about the club’s appeal. What, in your opinion, are the contributing factors to this sustained growth?
Pierre: I believe our success stems from a combination of factors. Firstly, we strive to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where individuals of all ages and skill levels feel comfortable learning and growing. Our dedicated team of instructors, many of whom have been with us for years, are passionate about sharing their knowledge and fostering a sense of community.
Moderator: I’d like to delve deeper into that “sense of community.” The article mentions that the Dojo prioritizes the training and development of its supervisors. Can you elaborate on how this commitment to instructor development contributes to the broader Dojo community?
Pierre: Absolutely. Investing in our instructors means investing in the quality of our training and the overall experience of our members. When instructors feel supported and empowered, they are better equipped to create a positive and encouraging learning environment. This directly translates into a stronger sense of community and belonging among our members.
Moderator: The article also highlights the Dojo’s forward-thinking approach by introducing Ju-Jitsu fighting and self-defense classes. This diversification of offerings is commendable. How has this expansion been received by the member base?
Pierre: The response to the new Ju-Jitsu classes has been phenomenal. we saw an immediate surge in interest, which reflects the community’s desire to explore new facets of martial arts. This addition not only broadens our offerings but also caters to a wider range of interests and goals, enriching the Dojo experience for everyone.
Moderator: Another aspect that resonates with me is the Dojo’s commitment to developing the next generation of referees. You yourself champion this initiative. why is it so crucial to cultivate future officials?
Pierre: The role of referees is fundamental to the integrity and development of any sport. Ensuring a pipeline of qualified officials is vital to the long-term health of judo and other martial arts. Without dedicated referees who uphold the rules and principles of the sport, competitions lose their fairness and the learning process suffers.
Moderator: This is a valuable insight,Pierre. The article mentions the Dojo’s investment in training departmental trainees and judokas for arbitration. What kind of support system do you have in place for these aspiring officials?
Pierre: We provide them with comprehensive training programs, mentorship from experienced referees, and opportunities to officiate at various levels of competition. This hands-on experience coupled with ongoing guidance prepares them to excel as impartial and informed referees.
