Young Judo Stars from Düsseldorf Shine at International Peace Festival
Eight talented young judoka from Judo Club Düsseldorf 71 e.V. traded in carnival festivities for an unforgettable experience at the 34th “Judo for Peace Festival” in Haifa, israel. Held from February 8th to 12th, the festival welcomed over 600 participants representing 15 nations, making it a truly global party of the sport.
This marked the third consecutive year that Haifa, Düsseldorf’s twin city, extended an invitation to a junior judo team from Düsseldorf. Notably, this year’s delegation primarily comprised young athletes making their international tournament debut. They not only gained invaluable experience but also achieved remarkable success.Frida Reisz (born 2007) dominated her weight class (up to 30 kilograms), securing a well-deserved first place. Alexander Utczyk (born 2008) showcased his skills,earning a commendable third place in the up to 25 kilograms category.
The Düsseldorf delegation’s journey was made possible with support from the city’s sports department, which provided a subsidy to help cover travel expenses. During their stay, the young judoka were graciously hosted by the city of Haifa.
