NFL: Eagles win top game – Josh Allen achieves feat
Football star Saquon Barkley led the Philadelphia Eagles to their eighth win in a row in the NFL. In the 24:19 win in the big game at the Baltimore Ravens, the strong running back ran for 107 yards and put the Eagles on the road to victory with a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Philadelphia maintained its lead in the NFC East.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, the NFL’s most valuable player in the preseason, threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns, but could not prevent the Super Bowl contender from losing at home.
The Buffalo Bills secured their early entry into the play-offs with their tenth win of the season. Quarterback Josh Allen excelled in the snow against the San Francisco 49ers and scored three touchdowns in a clear 35:10 – the 28-year-old MVP candidate threw one touchdown, one he ran and one he caught himself. According to the NFL, this feat has never been achieved by any other quarterback succeeded.
Just two weeks ago, the Bills inflicted their only defeat of the season on Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Meanwhile, the 49ers have to worry about qualifying for the playoffs.
NBA: Strong Hartenstein in OKC defeat
Despite a strong performance from German basketball professional Isaiah Hartenstein, the Oklahoma City Thunder suffered a narrow defeat in the top game of the Western Conference in the NBA. Hartenstein achieved a double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds on Monday night, but could not prevent the 116:119 defeat at the Houston Rockets. For the Thunder it was the first defeat after four wins in a row.
Oklahoma remains first in the West, with Houston lurking just behind. After breaking his hand, Hartenstein only made his debut for OKC around two weeks ago.
World champion Daniel Thies suffered his eighth defeat in a row with the New Orleans Pelicans. Theis scored a meager two points in the clear 85:118 defeat at the New York Knicks around Ariel Hukporti, New Orleans remains bottom in the West. Hukporti scored three points. The Knicks are on course for the playoffs in the East.
Superstar Luka Doncic celebrated his comeback with the Dallas Mavericks after a two-week injury break – and promptly led the Texans to a 137:131 win over the Portland Trail Blazers with 36 points and 13 assists. Maxi Kleber contributed two points to the fourth win in a row for the Mavs.
The Cleveland Cavaliers won the top game of the Eastern Conference 115:111 against champions Boston Celtics.
Wagner brothers win again against Schröder
For the Brooklyn Nets and their German world champion Dennis Schröder there is nothing to gain in the NBA against the Orlando Magic this season. The Nets also lost the third duel against the team from Florida with their World Cup colleagues Franz and Moritz Wagner as well as rookie Tristan da Silva in their own hall with 92:100. Orlando won the first two meetings with the Nets 116:101 and 123:100.
Schröder and Franz Wagner were the best scorers of the German quartet with 20 points each, but only Wagner and Co were allowed to celebrate. Franz Wagner, who had been outstanding for weeks, also had nine rebounds and eight assists. Moritz contributed twelve points and Silver four points. Orlando secured third place in the East with its 15th win of the season, while Brooklyn is in ninth place.
NHL: Seider and Reichel lose
The two national ice hockey players Moritz Seider and Lukas Reichel suffered defeats in the NHL on Sunday evening. Defender Seider missed the eleventh win of the season with the Detroit Red Wings despite being in the lead and also remained without a scorer in the 4:5 (1:0, 1:3, 2:1, 0:1) after overtime against the Vancouver Canucks. With 27:53 minutes, Seider had the most playing time of his team.
Striker Lukas Reichel was on the ice significantly less for the Chicago Blackhawks. Stützle fails: Ottawa loses penalty shootout
The German national ice hockey player Tim Stützle suffered his second defeat in a row with the Ottawa Senators in the North American professional league NHL. At the Anaheim Ducks, the Canadians lost 3:4 after a penalty shootout.
After Stützle prepared Brady Tkachuk’s 1-1 draw in regular time with his 30th goal of the current season, he appeared in the shootout as the Senators’ first shooter. After a quiet run down the right side, the 22-year-old was denied by Ducks goalie Lukas Dostal. Terry Troy and Trevor Zegras then scored for Anaheim to win. Ottawa remained without another goal.
In the Atlantic Division, the Canadians are in second-to-last place after 24 games. The NHL regular season ends April 17, 2025.
