Just over two weeks ago, Italian footballer Edoardo Bove collapsed during a Serie A match between his Fiorentina and Inter. It would later turn out to be a case of sudden cardiac arrest, and he was subsequently placed in a medically induced coma.
Now Bove has operated on a defibrillator, which should stop it from happening again, according to Italian media. He was allowed to leave the hospital on Friday.
Thanks for the support
Today, for the first time, he himself gave an update after the events. On Instagram he has published a long post, where he thanks for all the support.
“The affection I have received, the warmth of the fans, the support of my teammates and opponents, and the closeness I have felt from the ENTIRE soccer world has given me enormous strength and courage,” he writes, and continues:
“I’ve felt surrounded by positive energy that helped me stay calm and not feel so alone as you can often do in a situation like this”.
Want to return to the plan
It seems the 22-year-old intends to follow in Christian Eriksen’s footsteps, and like the Dane (who suffered a cardiac arrest during Euro 2021 but is now back in top-flight football) hopes to return to football.
“I feel good and that is the most important thing. See you soon… On the field!”
