Tackling Controversy: An Interview with coach Ahmed hassan on EFA Disciplinary Actions
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) recently sent shockwaves through the local football scene with a series of disciplinary measures levied against prominent clubs and individuals. To unpack these controversial decisions and their potential impacts, we sat down with legendary footballer and coach, Ahmed Hassan.
MH: Coach hassan, thank you for joining us. The EFAS disciplinary committee has been busy, to say the least. What are your initial thoughts on the actions taken against clubs like Al-Ahly, Zamalek, and Pyramids?
AH: It’s clear that the EFA is taking a strong stance against unacceptable behaviour, both on and off the pitch. While I commend their commitment to maintaining discipline, some of these decisions raise eyebrows. The three-month ban on Mohamed Serag El-Din, such as, seems excessive for social media comments. We need to strike a balance between holding individuals accountable and respecting freedom of expression.
MH: Let’s delve deeper into that. The case involving Mohamed Serag El-Din from Al-Ahly highlights the growing influence of social media in football. How do you think clubs can effectively manage player and official conduct in this digital age?
AH: Clubs have a crucial role to play in educating their members about responsible social media use. Implementing clear guidelines and offering workshops on online etiquette can certainly help. But ultimately, individuals must be held accountable for their actions, regardless of the platform they choose.
MH: Moving on to on-field incidents, several players were penalized for their conduct during the Al-Ahly versus Pyramids match. Do you agree with these suspensions?
AH: Football is a passionate sport, and emotions can run high during intense matches. However, players must learn to control their impulses and adhere to the rules. Suspensions are necessary to deter reckless behavior and protect the integrity of the game.
MH: You mentioned the integrity of the game. The EFA’s decision to preserve complaints against several Al-ahly officials for alleged incitement to collective insults is particularly noteworthy. What are your thoughts on this?
AH: Accusations of incitement are serious and warrant thorough investigation. If proven, such behavior has no place in football. It’s essential to ensure a fair and impartial process, where all parties have the prospect to present their side of the story.
MH: Coach Hassan, what message do you have for players, coaches, and fans in light of these recent disciplinary actions?
AH: We must remember that football is a game that unites us, not divides us. it’s vital to conduct ourselves with respect, both on and off the field. We should strive to create a positive and inclusive habitat where everyone feels valued and respected.
MH: Thank you, Coach Hassan, for sharing your insightful perspective.
