Mexican Archers Secure Spot in Olympic Round of 16
The Mexican menS archery team has secured their place in the Round of 16 at the Olympic Games, setting the stage for an exciting individual competition.
Leading the charge was reigning Pan American champion Matías Grande, who delivered a strong performance, accumulating 676 points and finishing in 11th place overall. This extraordinary showing helped propel the team to a ninth-place finish with a combined score of 1972 points.
Bruno Martínez contributed 653 points, securing 44th place, while Carlos Rojas added 643 points, placing him 55th.
The team will now face a formidable challenge against Japan in the Round of 16 on July 29th.
In the individual competition, wich begins on July 30th, Grande will face off against Mongolia’s Otgonbold Baatarkhuyag. Bruno Martínez will take on Cuban archer hugo Franco, while Carlos Rojas will compete against Turkey’s Berkim Tumer.
Adding to the excitement, Grande’s score will be combined with Alejandra Valencia’s impressive 669 points in the mixed team event. This dynamic duo, who recently clinched victory at the 2024 Yecheon World Cup, has already secured a spot in the Round of 16.
They will be looking to replicate their bronze medal success from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where they teamed up with Luis Álvarez. Their first challenge in the mixed team event will be against Brazil’s Marcus D’Almeida and Ana Luiza Caetano on August 2nd.
