Slovakian Winger Erik Jirka Embarks on New Chapter with Piast Gliwice
After a triumphant two-and-a-half-year stint with Viktoria Plzeň, Slovakian winger Erik Jirka is set to embark on a new adventure with Polish club Piast Gliwice. The 27-year-old has signed a contract until May 31, 2026, with an option for an additional year.
Jirka’s time in Plzeň was marked by significant contributions. Arriving in August 2022, he featured prominently for the team in prestigious competitions like the Champions League, Europa Conference League, and Europa League, amassing an impressive eleven goals across all tournaments.Reflecting on his time with Viktoria, Jirka expressed gratitude for the opportunity and the shared experiences. “It was a fantastic two and a half years.We had some astonishing moments together,” he shared on the Czech club’s website. “I want to thank all the fans, teammates, management, and the club for allowing me to be a part of this journey. It was an amazing ride!”
Jirka’s departure leaves a void in Plzeň, but his memorable performances will be fondly remembered by fans.Notably, his crucial penalty goal in the 21st minute of stoppage time against FK Drita in Pristina secured Viktoria’s progression to the third qualifying round of the Europa Conference League. Additionally, his brace against Slavia Prague on November 5, 2023, broke a long-standing “curse” at Eden Stadium.
Excited about his new challenge, Jirka expressed his enthusiasm for joining Piast Gliwice. “I feel great and am thrilled to have signed with Piast Gliwice,” he stated on the club’s official website. “They are a great team, and I hope to adapt quickly.”
Jirka’s familiarity with the Polish league, having previously played for Górnik Zabrze, gives him a head start. Jirka’s career has seen him represent several clubs, including Crvena Zvezda Belgrade, Radnički Niš, CD Mirandés, and Real Oviedo. He has also earned ten caps for the Slovakian national team, scoring two goals.

Erik: Plzeň was incredible. My time there was filled with unforgettable moments. Scoring that penalty against FK Drita in Pristina to send us through to the next round of the Europa Conference League was a massive highlight.and breaking the “curse” at Eden Stadium against Slavia Prague, that was just special.
Moderator: That Slavia Prague match had the whole football community buzzing. It was notable to see you decompose their defensive strategies. Now, you’ve moved on to Piast gliwice.Having previously played in Poland with Górnik zabrze, are you feeling more prepared for this challenge?
Erik: Definitely. Knowing the league’s dynamics gives me a head start. I understand that Polish football is becoming increasingly competitive, but I’m ready to adapt and contribute to Piast’s success. I want to score goals, help the team climb the table, and hopefully, win some silverware.

Erik: Absolutely. Piast is a club on the rise, with a hunger for success.Their ambition to compete at the highest level resonates with my desire to keep improving and challenging myself.

Erik:
Polish football is full of strong contenders, but I believe Piast has the potential to be right there with the best.They have a talented squad, a dedicated coaching staff, and passionate fans. If we continue to work hard and stay focused, we can achieve great things.
