NFL reporter Erin Andrews responded to an internet troll who made fun of her appearance sui social media.
As one of the most recognized faces in the world of sports broadcasting, Andrews, 46, has gained fame through his work as FOX NFL main sideline reporter since 2012. Despite her success, being in the spotlight has brought with it its share of social media protests.
An online detractor decided to criticize Andrews’ appearance during a postgame interview with DeMarvion Overshown of the Dallas Cowboys, following their Thanksgiving win over the New York Giants. The rude joke suggested that Andrews is “too old” to represent FOX Sports, insinuating that it might be time for a fresher face, claiming that they could “visibly see the wrinkles on the HD (high definition TV).”
Andrews, however, is no novice at dealing with such negativity, and responded with a quip every bit as sharp as the taunt, replying, “I don’t even think I need HD to see them. But I appreciate you pointing them out, man!” , he reports the mirror of the United StatesThe respected sports commentator’s reaction echoed a similar case when she faced critical comments about her appearance while covering a sizzling San Francisco Game between the 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 10, in which temperatures topped 90 degrees, leaving Andrews unavoidably heat-affected.
Andrews spoke on Charissa Thompson’s ‘Calm Down’ podcast about her mixed reactions to her body’s natural response to heat during the game, recounting one particular interaction with followers. She said: “Someone said, ‘Erin Andrews, you’re so beautiful. You’ve got this glow. What are you using?’ And I said, ‘It’s called sweat.’ We were out… like 90 degrees on the field for four hours.
“I wrote back and said, ‘that’s what you call sweat and I need a shower,’ and some asshole wrote, ‘it’s hot flashes’. Shut up – shut up! He’s out for five hours, that’s it !” Thompson supported his co-host with a reassuring message: “Don’t worry about those losers, just keep doing who you are,” he said.
“People who try to tease Erin and me about certain things, every now and then we respond, just because it’s like we’ve had enough… But for every 100 negative comments we might respond to one.” Andrews has been a familiar face in sports broadcasting since her start at ESPN in 2004. After eight years rising through the ranks, she moved to FOX and has been a regular presence on NFL from then on aside.
