How did the new teams of Cēsis City Sports School (CPSS) fare in the Latvian youth floorball championship?
In the boys’ competition
In the U18 group, the CPSS team is in the second position of the table, which beat the “Ogre/Lielvārde” team 5:2 in the last match away from home. Although the home team scored 2-0 in the first third, in the rest of the game, only the Česi team scored, winning the fifth victory in seven championship games. The following scored goals: Kristers Sīlis, Emīls Zauriņš, Jorens Stāls, Mariuss Virskuls and Rūdolfs Maklers. In the goal of the Cēsis team, Regnārs Kreichmanis saved 12 of 14 shots.
The players of this team gain experience by playing also in the 1st league of the men’s championship, some also in the super league team.
The situation in the standings is very equal, every win or loss can bring changes. The leaders “Rubene/ KSS” have 15 points, the Cēsi team – 14 points, the same for the “Ķekava bulldogs” floorball players, “Ogre/ Lielvārde” – 13, “FS Masters/ Ulbroka” – 12, “FBNK Baloži/ Teamsport.lv” – 11.
The Cēsi team has one more game this year on December 29 against the floorball players of Ķekava.
In the U16 group, the CPSS team has scored only two victories in the eight games played and currently occupies the eighth place with six points. In the last game, the people of Cesis suffered a serious loss against the Irlava team (2:16). Pauls Jaunzems and Kristers Jaunozols scored for CPSS.
In the U14 group, the CPSS team plays in the 1st division, currently they have won two games in eight games and are in the penultimate 9th place. In the last game, the team “Rīgas lauvas/ Stars-1” was beaten 2:1. Having lost 0:1, the Cesians were able to fight back, Lauris Lazdiņš was accurate, and also score the winning goal, by Marek Cekulas.
Also in the 1st division of the U12 group, the CPSS team is currently in the penultimate 9th place, they also have only two victories in eight games. In the last game, they managed to beat the “Rīgas lauvas/ Stars” team with 6:5 in the shootout. Six minutes before the end of regular time, the team was still behind 3-5, but managed to score two goals and level the score at 5-5. Emīls Lapiņš scored three goals in regular time, he also equalized. Marats Gruzītis and Dainis Opincāns also scored with accurate shots.
In the girls’ competition
The CPSS team has played two games in the girls’ tournament in the U16 group, winning both of them. In the last game, the team “SK Slampe/ Zevid” was defeated by 8:4. Three goals were scored by Olívija Jarohovića, two by Evelīna Barka, one by Elizabete Malnača, Elīna Ulme and Adrija Krieviņa. Several team players also play in the women’s league team “Lekrings”, gaining the necessary experience.
Three teams have currently won the same number of points (6), the Cēsi team is in second place, but is the only one that has not yet lost points.
In the U14 group, the CPSS team is in the lead after the first round, having won all four games. “Rubene/ KSS” floorball players were beaten 5:1 in the last match away from home. The goals were scored by Beatrice Pavare, Anja Nikolajeva, Elizabete Melnača and Katrina Rone, but once the ball entered the goal from a player of the Rubene team.
The U12 group is not doing so well, one win in five games, the superiority of “Rubene/ KSS” was recognized with 2:6 in the last game. Tina Dmitrieva and Sofia Jones scored goals for Cēsis. CPSS floorball players take sixth place in the seven-team competition.
Unfortunately, the girls’ teams in the national championship have few games, there are long breaks, and the next game for the U14 team is only in February. In other groups, one or two games per month is still not enough for skill growth.
