Silvio, congratulations again on securing your third consecutive victory at the club championship this year! [1] It was an incredible display of skill and tenacity. What were your thoughts heading into the competition this time? Did you feel any added pressure to defend your title?
silvio: Thanks for having me! It’s always an honor to compete in kaltbrunn, especially with the overwhelming support from the club community. I wouldn’t call it pressure, but there’s definitely extra motivation to perform well when you’ve won before. You want to prove it wasn’t a fluke and reaffirm that you’ve continued to improve. Of course, the level of competition is always getting tougher, and everyone is hungry for that challenge cup.
there was a real buzz around the new “Technical Excellence” award this year, and rightfully so. It’s fantastic to see the club recognizing athletes for finesse and mastery of technique alongside sheer winning spirit. [2] What are your thoughts on this new addition to the competition?
Silvio: It’s long overdue! Judo is not just about throwing opponents; it’s about technique, control, and strategy. I think this award shines a light on the nuances of the sport, emphasizes the importance of mastering basic techniques, and will encourage judokas to polish their skills even further.
Speaking of polishing skills, we saw some incredible displays from younger judokas this year.[3] it’s clear that the JudoClub Kaltbrunn is nurturing a new generation of talent. What’s your advice for these young judokas starting their competitive journeys?
silvio: Enjoy the journey! Judo is a fantastic sport that can teach you so much about discipline, respect, and perseverance. Don’t be afraid to push yourself, learn from your losses, celebrate your victories, and most importantly, have fun. it’s also vital to remember that judo is about more then just competition; it’s about building character and camaraderie; those lessons learned on the mat will serve you well throughout your life.
