BRATISLAVA. The hockey players of HC Košice have a six-point lead at the top of the table even after the 28th round of the Tipos extraliga. They kept it thanks to a 3:1 victory on the Michaloviec ice in Wednesday’s match of the first round after the second international break.
It did not help the players of the champion Nitra, who lost two games before it, but did not score even on the ice of Banská Bystrica on Wednesday.
The “Rams” triumphed in a direct fight for the third place in front of their own spectators 5:2, when Andrej Kukuča led them with two goals.
He confirmed his excellent form, when he did not score in only one of the past nine games and collected 12 points (6+6). Banská Bystrica also won the third match between them in the season and defeated Nitra for the sixth time in a row.
In the jersey of the guests, an old reinforcement – defender Luke Green – has already started. Nitra lost three games in a row for only the second time in the season.
The people of Košice keep their lead
The Košice team also beat their Wednesday opponent in all three games in the season. On the Michaloviec ice, they headed for victory with two goals in the second period and kept a clean sheet until the 50th minute. Striker Mário Lunter started in the “steel” jersey for the first time this season.
Striker Ben Johnson, with whom the club terminated cooperation due to breach of contract, was no longer in the home team. Shortly after the match, the club announced the engagement of Canadian forward Joseph Nardi.
In the match between Trenčín and Zvolen, the score was 2:2, extra time was about to go, but even after the 28th round, it is finally true that all Trenčín matches in the season ended in regular playing time.
On Wednesday, it was decided by Brett Stapley, who scored the winning goal in the 56th minute. The team from Tren won the second match in a row and with 36 points they equaled Zvolen. He is currently ranked 9th, but has played one match more.
Slovan secured the victory
The players of Nový Zámkov lost in the ninth game in a row, and the vision of salvation is inexorably moving away from them. On Wednesday, they were not enough against Slovan Bratislava, who scored six goals in the 38th minute and finally triumphed 7:4.
The hockey players of Spišská Nová Ves won the fourth game under the leadership of Vladimír Záborský. They extended their winning streak on the ice of a newcomer from Žilina, whom they beat 3:1.
They still have a six-point deficit on second place in Košice. Žilina lost for the first time after three victories.
Only five meetings took place on Wednesday. The duel between Liptovský Mikuláš and Poprad will take place on an alternate date due to health problems of Lipták.
