Faroe Islands Football League is the highest level of football competition in the Faroe Islands. It was founded in 1942 and is organized by the Football Association of the Faroe Islands.
The league consists of 10 clubs, and every year the two clubs with the fewest points are relegated to the second league, and the two with the most points from the second league enter the first league.
Although the league was founded in 1942, until 1993 clubs from the Faroe Islands were not allowed to compete in European football competitions.
From 1942 until 1975, the league was called The Champions Leagueand from 1975 to 2004. 1st Division.
