Joshua Kimmich’s contract with FC Bayern ends in the summer. The club is fighting for him and negotiations are dragging on. Now, of all times, the captain of the national team is setting up his management team. An old acquaintance is new to his team.
Joshua Kimmich, 29, is facing one of the most important decisions of his career: Will he extend his contract with FC Bayern, which expires in 2025, or will he move to a top club abroad for free? As reported in the BILD podcast “Bayern Insider”, Kimmich is reorganizing his management in the middle of contract negotiations with the record champions.
And a very surprising name comes into play. The national player will bring Thomas Beheshti into his management on January 1st. Beheshti is officially employed by the DFB until December 31st. He was Oliver Bierhoff’s right-hand man in the national team for many years and has held various positions since 2009, most recently as team manager. In the fall it was announced that he would be leaving the association at his own request at the end of the year.
Kimmich is also said to have separated from his media manager Danny Biegler. Beheshti should primarily take care of topics such as marketing. What is interesting, however, is that Kimmich continues to conduct his sporting negotiations himself, such as the contract talks with Bayern, without an advisor. He is currently in intensive discussions with Bayern sports director Max Eberl.
Kimmich relies on DFB manager
“I think it’s good to see the big picture in winter and then look: What happened? Of course the past plays a role. But the future is much more important to me. I think I should take some time to make a good and right decision. I know what I have here at FC Bayern. I know that my family feels very, very comfortable in Munich. Nevertheless, it is difficult to make a well-considered decision,” said Kimmich recently.
Eberl rolled out the red carpet for Kimmich to SPORT BILD. “We tell him: We want to extend the contract with you. We say: He should become the captain of FC Bayern when Manuel Neuer is no longer on the pitch at some point. And we let him know that he should become a face of our club. We made that clear to him and we stand behind it.”
