Harry Kane raised his arm and showed the Bayern bench that things couldn’t go any further. The star striker then sat down on the lawn of the Dortmund stadium and waited for the supervisors. After a short treatment it was clear that the Englishman had to be replaced. He left the pitch in the 33rd minute of the 1-1 draw in Dortmund and Thomas Müller came on for him.
“If you’re 1-0 behind in Dortmund, you don’t sit down unless there’s something really bad,” said Müller on Sky. Kane was followed by anxious looks when he was substituted. After all, Bayern are facing groundbreaking weeks in the Champions League and the Bundesliga. The Munich team will host champions Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup on Tuesday. There is no alternative for the center forward at Bayern, and there is no adequate replacement for the top striker in the Munich squad.
After the draw in Dortmund, Bayern gave the all-clear. “He noticed that there was something in his thigh, but he also said it wasn’t bad,” reported sports director Max Eberl. More precise statements could only be made on Sunday or Monday. That’s why it’s not yet clear whether Kane can play on Tuesday.
“Of course it will be close,” says Bayern coach Kompany
“He said it wasn’t that bad,” said coach Vincent Kompany on Sky broadcaster and referred to the investigation: “Then we’ll know more.” But the Belgian doubts that Kane will be ready to play again in three days: “That will of course be scarce. I don’t know many players who recover so quickly in such a short time.”
Kane leads the Bundesliga’s top scorers list with 14 goals from twelve games, as well as nine assists. The 31-year-old is also as accurate as usual in the Champions League – he scored five times in five games.
