FC Porto was the Portuguese club that initiated contact with Artur Jorge, according to information obtained by Desporto ao Minuto, after he himself made public an invitation to return ‘home’, at the time of being decorated by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Souza .
“On issues related to possible proposals, we did have an approach from Portugal to understand what the situation was,” assumed the Portuguese coach, upon receiving the Order of Infante Dom Henrique, at the Belém Palace, as a result of the journey of Botafogo towards winning the Copa Libertadores.
This exploratory dialogue comes at a time of particular ‘turbulence’ for Vítor Bruno, who has won just three victories in the last eight matches, significantly increasing the tone of contestation around him.
The helmsman, it is worth remembering, took over the helm of the Dragons last summer, following the departure of Sérgio Conceição (who he had been an assistant to for many years), having signed a contract valid until June 2026, but it takes time to convince the club’s demanding fans.
Determining days
Artur Jorge is linked to Botafogo until the end of the next calendar year 2025, but, at this moment, there is still no guarantee as to how he will remain in technical command of the main team for the season ahead.
The next few days will be decisive for the immediate future of the former Sporting de Braga, who currently has several invitations in hand, namely from Al-Rayyan, currently ranked eighth in the top tier of Qatari football.
However, as Desporto ao Minuto knows, at this moment, the possibility of returning to Portugal is not on the table. Artur Jorge assumed that he would only return to “coach FC Porto, Benfica or Sporting”, but only from a long-term perspective.
