Our Fenerbahçe Opet Women’s Basketball Team hosted ÇBK Mersin in the 10th week match of the ING Women’s Basketball Super League. Winning the match 82-69, the Queens of the Crucible made it 8 out of 8 in the league and maintained their undefeated title.
Gabby Williams was the scorer of the match with 23 points; Emma Meesseman made a significant contribution to the victory with 20 points, Tina Charles with 15 points and Julie Allemand with 10 points.
The match where our fans filled the stands at Metro Enerji Sports Hall; Our Secretary General Burak Çağlan Kızılhan, our Board Members Mustafa Kemal Danabaş and Rıfat Perahya, and the Coach of our Fenerbahçe Petrol Ofisi Women’s Football Team Gökhan Bozkaya and his players also watched.
Before the match, our former players Natasha Howard and Yvonne Anderson, who played for ÇBK Mersin, were given the EuroLeague and Super Cup miniatures won in the 2023 and 2024 seasons by our team captains Alperi Onar and Emma Meesseman.
Our team started the match; Emma Meesseman, Sevgi Uzun, Gabby Williams, Julie Allemand, Tina Charles started with the five.
Our team completed the first period, which was balanced, with Tina Charles evaluating their attacks, and was ahead 26-24. While Fenerbahçe Opet hit 4 out of 5 three-pointers in this period (Alper, Allemand, Williams), Charles was our standout player with the 11 points he scored. When the guest team started the second period with a 2-8 series, our Head Coach Valerie Garnier called an early break: 28-32. Returning from the time-out, the score was tied with baskets by Messeman and Williams, and this time the guest team took a time-out: 32-32. When the difference increased to 8 points with consecutive three-pointers made by Williams, another break came from the Akdeniz team: 42-34. Queens of the Basket went to the locker room leading 48-38.
Fenerbahçe started the second half effectively in attack; Sevgi called a timeout to her opponent with a 6-0 run scored by Meesseman and William: 54-38. While Valerie Garnier’s students overwhelmed their opponent with their aggressive defense in this section, the guest team’s first points in the third period came with 05:27 left in the period: 54-40. After mutual points, the final period was entered with a score of 65-50. Although ÇBK Mersin started the fourth period with a 0-4 streak, Fenerbahçe Opet completed the attacks with Sevgi, Meesseman, Williams, Tilbe and Charles, and won the match 82-69 with a difference of 13 points, making it 8 out of 8 in the league.
