More than 7 thousand athletes from 90 municipalities participate in the competitions in 33 disciplines that will last until December 15 in the final of the Antioquia 2024 Departmental Sports Games in the municipality of Andes, with some disciplines in Garden. To reach this stage, Indeportes invested 7.5 billion in all its phases during this year. This is the 47th edition of the aforementioned Games.
“Many of you will have heard me say that I have an admiration and almost a weakness for athletes, especially those who dare to put so much dedication and effort, even with different abilities. You, athletes, reflect the most virtuous conditions of the human being. : the fight, the effort, the dedication for their families, the camaraderie, the discipline, the healthy competition, the respect for the opponent or the one in front of us and that we are able to value their qualities”, highlighted the departmental leader, Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona.
The athletes reached this final stage after qualifying in the seven subregional zones held in recent months in the municipalities of Amalfi (Northeast and Magdalena Medio), Entrerríos (North and Bajo Cauca), Sopetrán (West), Marinilla (East), Andes (Southwest), Apartadó (Urabá) and Sabaneta (Aburrá Valley). The mayor of Andes, Germán Alexander Vélez, highlighted that, thanks to these Games, they contribute to tourism and the visibility of these populations.
The bulk of the 33 sports disciplines in dispute will take place in Andes and Jardín, while Apartadó is the headquarters of the baseball games. For this edition, the following will be in competition: underwater activities, chess, athletics, badminton, basketball, handball and many more. The host president took the opportunity to request more resources to optimize the existing sports infrastructure and to build new sports venues. “We need, Mr. Governor, to consolidate the goals by obtaining new scenarios that allow young people from all over the territory to train in sports and continue to fill their respective territory with pride, just as many have already done.”
“Sport allows us to have a life project; it consists of a lot of discipline and the desire that one has for it. These Games allow us to share with friends, have a healthy environment,” María Antonia Parra Hernández stood out, a young promise of skating and winner of Pan American gold, a silver medal and two bronze medals from the Antioquia Cup.
Indeportes Antioquia invests around 3.7 billion pesos in the two venues of the final phase, while for the zonal subregions, about 3.8 billion pesos were allocated in seven venues.
