The Finnish cross-country skier Jasmi Joensuu has gone through a relationship crisis. On Instagram, she announces that she is divorcing her husband Juho Simonen, something she describes as the worst week of her life.

“We are not us anymore. During the last trip I knew all was not well, and when I got home it was confirmed that our paths are parting”she writes on Instagram.

Joensuu competed in the World Cup in Davos last weekend and it was after that that the marriage ended.

“A week of sleepless nights has made me feel absolutely terrible”.

Met at a ski competition

She writes about how chance brought her to her future ex-husband at a skiing competition in Rovaniemi five years ago.

“I fell in love so much and I have experienced incredibly great things that made it possible for me to fulfill my bigger dreams. For me, life outside of skiing has been a necessity and my own family has made it possible as well. And for this I am more than grateful”.

The star hopes to find his way back to joy again.

“Feel extremely sad, disappointed, and feel like my life has lost its base, but damn, I’ll find that smile again and one day say it was meant to be.”

Jasmi Joensuu took WC bronze in the team relay in Oberstdorf 2021.
