Today, Tuesday 3 December 2024, Taurus turns 118 years old. An important milestone for the Granata club, which boasts 7 Scudetti and 5 Italian Cups throughout its history, beyond the “myth” of Grande Torino.
A Toro that today is not experiencing its best period of the season, despite the start of the championship which had led it, repeatedly, to climb to first place in the rankings.
A Toro that sees the fans, never before in this period, contesting in every possible way – outside the stadium, in the stadium, via social media, on the street – the patron Urbano Cairo, fresh from the title of “longest-serving president” in the history of Granata , surpassing another “myth” like Orfeo Pianelli.
Yet in recent years Cairo has managed to save it from an inglorious end and, after a relegation full of anger and three years of purgatory, has kept it permanently in Serie A since 2012. And despite the two participations in UEFA it has always lacked “that shot ” which would allow the Granata to become Atalanta, winning some trophies that the club has been hoping to win since 1993.
In recent weeks, rumors of a possible sale to an Arab consortium or to Red Bull have been making fans agitated. But Cairo, speaking to ANSA, dampened the enthusiasm: “Red Bull? I met them on July 1st, they wanted to meet me to become a sponsor and so it was, but since then I haven’t met them again: and for how long it concerns Pif (the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund, ed.) I don’t even know them and there hasn’t been any kind of contact, it’s all made up things.”
Pretactics or truth? Only time will tell. Yesterday, on the sidelines of the presentation of the stages of the Vuelta in Piemonte, the metropolitan mayor Stefano Lo Russo clarified the meeting he had with Cairo a short time ago: “True, I met him. We talked about the Olympic stadium issue, the mortgages, of the works at the Robaldo which will see important changes already in January, such as the completion and opening of four pitches and the completion of the changing rooms and grandstand. On the protests and the potential sale? I won’t comment on the first one because it isn’t a problem of the City but possibly of Cairo. Let’s move on to another question…”.
