Italian Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove, victim of a cardiac arrest in the middle of an Italian Championship match on December 1, reunited with his teammates on Saturday, the day after his release from hospital. According to a video published by the Florentine club on its X account (formerly Twitter), Bove participated in the video session to prepare for the match of the 15th day of Serie A against Bologna on Sunday.
Dressed in shorts and a training jersey, all smiles, Bove, 22, was applauded for a long time by his teammates upon his arrival in a conference room at “Viola Park”, the training center of the Fiorentina. However, he did not train with his teammates, having returned home the day before after thirteen days in hospital following his heart attack which occurred in the 16th minute of the match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan.
His career with Fiorentina or any other Serie A club – he is under contract with AS Roma who loaned him last summer – could be over after the installation of a defibrillator, a device which prohibits the practice of sport professional in Italy. According to a former member of the medical staff of a Serie A club, interviewed by AFP, there is no chance that Bove, with this defibrillator, will regain a license to play in the Italian championship.
The Dane Christian Eriksen, victim of a cardiac arrest in the middle of a Euro 2021 match, had to terminate his contract with Inter Milan after the installation of a subcutaneous defibrillator. He was able to resume his career in the English Championship at the start of 2022, first at Brentford then at Manchester United, where he still plays.
