The world of Russian football mourns the loss of alexei Bugaev, a former defender for the national team and clubs like Torpedo Moscow and Lokomotiv. Sports agent Anton Smirnov announced the heartbreaking news on his Telegram channel, stating that Bugaev passed away at the age of 43 in the conflict zone in Ukraine. [[1]]
Bugaev’s career saw him represent his country on the international stage, participating in seven matches and twice competing in the prestigious European Championships in 2004. He hung up his boots in 2010 at the relatively young age of 29.
Sadly, Bugaev’s passing is not an isolated incident. The ongoing conflict has claimed the lives of other prominent figures from the Russian sporting world. Earlier this year, Valentin Zhdanov, captain of the SFZ hockey team from serov, Sverdlovsk region, lost his life in the conflict zone near Yasnobrodovka in the DPR. [[2]]
Adding to the somber list, Dmitry krylov, former vice-mayor of Yugorsk, also perished in the conflict zone. Krylov,despite lacking combat experience or military service,made the courageous decision to volunteer in December 2023. [[3]]
