Badajoz continues to confirm itself as a reference city when it comes to judo. Last weekend the Spanish Judo Championship was held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and four representatives from Badajoz won a medal in the event. Iñaki Baztán managed to become the absolute champion of Spain, Sergyi Hhnatiuk won the Spanish Master M2 +100 kg championship, Manuel Durán did the same in Master M3 -90kg and Juan José Vivas obtained silver in the M4 -66kg event.
Iñaki Baztán, from the JC Coliseum of Badajoz, was proclaimed absolute champion of Spain in judo in the -81 kg category by defeating all his opponents and beating Galician Alexis Rosa in the final. The man from Badajoz made history by winning the gold medal at just 19 years old.
The other Badajoz athletes from the Coliseum sports center won full medals in the veteran category. Hhnatiuk won the Master M2 +100kg event, Durán won gold in the Master M3 -90kg and Vivas achieved a creditable runner-up finish in M4 -66kg.
The Extremadura region did not stop winning metals in the different tests. Overall, it won three gold medals and one bronze, being the third community with the highest number of medals in this discipline. In the veterans championship they managed to obtain two golds, two silvers and a bronze.
