Yes, there was Juan Soto’s pharaonic contract with the New York Mets, but all major baseball teams are still trying to improve, notably the Toronto Blue Jays.
Listen to Alex Agostino discuss the free agent hunt period in major league baseball with Mario Langlois.
“The Blue Jays are trying to get more athletic players. Second baseman Andrés Jimenez is a player who won the Gold Glove three years in a row. Thirty stolen bases the last two years. But offensively, it’s not an average presence on the trails… It’s below 300, but he’s trying to improve. I think they’re maybe having a little more balanced attack, more speed… But you still need power. That’s what’s still missing.”
Other automonous players are available, but you still need to be able to afford them.
“There is no second place in these races. There is no silver medal, there is no bronze medal. We have to win this derby. The Blue Jays have owners with deep pockets, it depends if they want to spend. They made efforts for Ohtani and for Soto. That means they have money.”
