Fuldaers win bronze at the German club team championships

Senftenberg (pm/pf) – The German club team championships for the U15 and U18 age groups took place last weekend in Senftenberg in southern Brandenburg. In the U15 age group, the fighting group 1. Fuldaer Judo-Club/TSG Nordwest Frankfurt took an excellent seventh place. Michelle Müller and Franziska Lomb, who competed for the Homburg gymnastics community 1846 in the U18 age group, were able to top the result and brought the bronze medal back to Fulda.

The young judokas of the 1st Fulda Judo Club have an eventful weekend behind them. After qualifying at the Hessian team championships, the national final in Senftenberg was on the agenda. With a journey of almost 500km, it was the first tournament for some of the young athletes that required an overnight stay.

The weigh-in was already on the agenda for the 1.Fuldaer JC / TSG Nordwest Frankfurt team on Friday evening, before goosebumps arose for the first time on Saturday morning with the playing of the national anthem at the tournament opening. In the pre-pooled system you had to finish at least first or second place to advance to the main round. The U15 athletes achieved this brilliantly with a 4:1 win against KG Judo in Holle / MTV Isenbüttel (NS) and a narrow defeat with 2:3 against KG SFK ShidoSha / PSV Olympia Berlin (BE). In the subsequent main round of the 16 best club teams from all over Germany, they first faced KG TSB Ravensburg / VfL Ulm (BW), who were sent off the mat with a 4-1 win thanks to a strong team performance. In the subsequent quarter-finals they lost 2:3 to their Hessian rivals Kampfgemeinschaft HTG 1846 / JC Wiesbaden and in the consolation round they were again beaten 2:3 by their preliminary round opponents KG SFK ShidoSha / PSV Olympia Berlin (BE) after a courageous performance give. 7th place at national level is a great success for the young team from Fulda and Frankfurt. Coach Mike Thiel summed up after the elimination: “Unfortunately, we were denied a podium finish due to one or two injuries, but it still shows the boys’ great potential. The fact that we can keep up well in the “Concert of the Greats” is ultimately also a result of the hard and intensive preparation throughout 2024.”

On Sunday at the DVMM U18, three Fulda judokas started in the ranks of the Homburger Turngemeinde 1846 eV. The female team, including the Fulda judokas Michelle Müller and Franziska Lomb, had big plans when they arrived as Hesse champions. The entire competition year was geared towards the highlight in Senftenberg and the goal set was clearly a top ten placement. Unfortunately, if you didn’t fill a weight class (-44kg), you automatically had to give up a point in every encounter. In the pre-pooled system, they first met FC Stella Bevergern (NW), who they beat 4-2, as well as USC Magdeburg (ST). Against KG TSV Altenfurt / TSV Abensberg (BY), who were among the title favorites, they had to admit defeat 2:4 and moved into the main round as second in the pool. Here they met last year’s winner and this year’s winner Judo-Club 71 Düsseldorf (NW), to whom they lost 1:5. Now in the consolation round, the girls showed what they had planned. With great will to win and a lot of effort, they swept the JJC Mendig (RL) off the mat with a score of 5-0. And in the subsequent small final for third place, they overran the Heubach Judo Center (WÜ) with a 4:2 and were rewarded for the great team performance with a bronze medal at the national level.

Fabian Hohmann was a guest starter for the male U18 team of the Homburg gymnastics community in 1846. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any luck and lost 6-0 in the first round against eventual runners-up UJKC Potsdam (BB). In the consolation round they left the mat with a 4:2 against Eimsbütteler TV (HH) before they had to admit defeat to their Hessian rivals TSG Blau Gold Gießen with 2:4, as they did at the Hessian Championships, and were eliminated Tournament eliminated.

Both the U15 and U18 athletes agreed that they would definitely like to qualify for this great measure again next year and perhaps win one or two more matches. The atmosphere in the hall was phenomenal and the solidarity and mutual support in the teams sent shivers down the spines of one or two and brought a tear of pride to the eyes of even the most hardened coaches.
