Gabriel Jesus’ hat trick puts Arsenal in the English League Cup semi-finals – Football League Cup

Three goals from Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus today allowed Arsenal to qualify for the semi-finals of the English Football League Cup, beating Crystal Palace at home (3-2), with Liverpool and Newcastle also qualifying.

Goals from the Brazilian, in the 54th, 73rd and 81st minutes, allowed the Gunners to go ahead, against a London opponent who took the lead after just four minutes, through Mateta, and even ‘threatened’ the 3-3, when he reduced it through the former -Arsenal Nketiah, at 85.

It was the ninth game in a row without losing for the team led by Mikel Arteta, who was still coming off a draw on Saturday against Everton (0-0), in the English Championship.

Shortly afterwards, Liverpool went home to the ‘distressed’ and coachless Southampton, winning 2-1, with an ‘eleven’ made up of regular starters and several young players from the youth teams, in which Diogo Jota joined at 63.

Former Benfica Darwin Núñez, at 24, and Harvey Elliot, at 32, had already advanced the ‘reds’, although the home team, in which Mateus Fernandes was one of the best, was still reduced at 59, by Archer.

Also in the last four teams of the competition is Newcastle, who beat Brentford 3-1 at home, with a double from Italian midfielder Tonali, in the ninth and 43rd minutes, and a goal from Schär, in the 69th, before Wissa score, at 90+1, the goal of honor for the outsiders, who had Fábio Carvalho in the starting eleven.

On Thursday, Rúben Amorim’s Manchester United visit Tottenham in search of a place in the semi-finals.
