The German footballers are lucky: the DFB team of national coach Christian Wück is initially avoiding defending champions England at the European Football Championship in Switzerland. The Germans will face Poland, Denmark and Sweden in the preliminary round. This was the result of the European Football Union UEFA draw in Lausanne for the tournament from July 2nd to 27th, 2025.
The record European champions from Germany are starting on the way to their desired ninth triumph in Group C. The opening game will be played by the host team from Switzerland in Basel against Norway. Iceland and Finland complete Group A. In Group B, the world champions from Spain, Portugal, Belgium and Italy compete against each other. The strongest Group D is made up of France, England, Wales and the Netherlands.
The DFB selection, Switzerland as well as Spain and France were seeded. The top two groups reach the quarterfinals. As group winners, the German selection would play against the runners-up from the England/France group in Zurich, and as runners-up against the winner of this group in Basel.
The DFB women lost the last European Championship final 2022 against England 1-2 at Wembley. For Wück, as the successor to Horst Hrubesch, it is the first tournament in charge of the women’s team after he was European and world champion with the DFB’s male U17 team.
