Gernika, who had only lost one of their six previous matches, extended their good form and took the three points against Anguiano in a match with few opportunities and in which Baqué’s goal near the end decided.

The black and white team started with vigor and created danger from the first minute with a cross from Agirrezabala that crossed the visiting area and a shot from Asier blocked by the defense of the Rioja squad.

The Gernikarra team, under the guidance of Gorka Iraizoz, controlled possession in the initial stages, although with little verticality, in contrast to Anguiano who was hesitant.

The opportunities did not take long to arrive. Arzalluz, after a good collective combination, had the first one-on-one, but was unable to define precisely. Barba and Laka also got close to the goal with deflected shots that reflected the slight dominance of the Biscayan team in the first twenty minutes. Nates’ falls towards the right profile were the main source of danger for the black and white team.

The game slowed down towards the halfway point of the first half, with both teams focused on remaining cautious and waiting for others to make mistakes. The Rioja team began to win divided duels, which allowed them to generate some approximation. A shot by Moha from a tight angle was the first attempt on goal with relative danger on the half hour mark. Almost at the end of the first half, Iker tried to test San Nicolás on two occasions, but both shots went directly into the hands of the Gernika goalkeeper.

Against an Anguiano who lost his shyness, Iraizoz’s team insisted with greater intensity, but the dull pace and lack of clarity in the last meters marked a tactical and difficult duel. Despite their limitations, Héctor Urquía’s pupils knew how to resist in Urbieta during a first act that left more intentions than certainties.

The second half started the same as the first, with the Albinegra squad taking center stage with the ball. For its part, Anguiano took advantage of its physical superiority in the midfield, where it prevailed in aerial disputes, to get closer to the area, although without danger. Their pressure on Gernika was increasingly intense, which bothered Iraizoz’s pupils, who, despite maintaining possession of the ball, exhibited little offensive presence. However, in the 65th minute, the Gernikarra team broke the lines with an impeccable pass from Laka to Arzalluz, who could not find a finisher inside Roberto’s area.

This improvement of the Biscayan team was certified in the form of a goal in the final moments and when the duel seemed doomed to 0-0. Baqué took advantage of a clearance in the area to score the goal that gave Gernika the victory. Anguiano tried to react with long balls, but did not bother San Nicolás in the remainder of the game. With this victory, the Biscayan squad moves away from the relegation places and ties, with 17 points, with Anguiano himself.
