Empowering Women on the Badminton Court: Grenoble Alpes Badminton Leads the Way
while the Grenoble Alpes Badminton (GAB) club maintains a respectable 36% female membership, mirroring the national average, the sport is experiencing a decline in female participation across France. Recognizing this trend, GAB has implemented a series of initiatives to encourage women to pick up a racket.
“The recent label awarded to us by the Ligue AuRA is a testament to our commitment to fostering women’s badminton,” says caroline Ougier, co-secretary of the club.”We’ve introduced dedicated training sessions exclusively for female competitors, a rarity in most clubs and highly valued by our members.”
GAB’s efforts extend beyond the court. The club organizes events like “Invite ta copine,” a program launched last year that allows women to introduce a friend to badminton through a guided session. Furthermore,GAB is striving for gender balance within its leadership and coaching staff, exemplified by the recent appointment of a female coach. While progress has been made, the club acknowledges that achieving true parity remains a work in progress.
Looking ahead, GAB is committed to continuing its initiatives, including hosting a leg of the “Elles au Bad” tour in April. The club’s ultimate goal is to attain the prestigious Gold label, further solidifying its dedication to promoting women’s badminton.
