Grizzly Pride & Shuttlecock Stars: A Chat with Coach Lavigne
This week we welcome Coach Sébastien Lavigne, one of the driving forces behind the Louis-Jacques-Casault Grizzlies’ success, to discuss the recent string of their athletic victories. Coach Lavigne, congratulations on your badminton team’s impressive performances at the RSEQ tournament! What are your thoughts on their dominance on the court?
Coach Lavigne: “I couldn’t be prouder of our badminton athletes. Their dedication and hard work really paid off, claiming victory in several doubles categories. It’s a testament to the strong team spirit we’ve fostered, and seeing all twelve teams advance to the semi-finals or even achieve fifth place in the consolation finals is truly remarkable.”
That’s an incredible achievement for the entire team! does that kind of widespread success come down to diligent training, natural talent, or a little bit of both?
Coach Lavigne: “The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Of course, natural talent helps, but without dedicated training and relentless practice, raw talent alone won’t cut it at this level.
Our athletes are committed to putting in the hours, and they’ve truly embraced our training regimen. But it’s not just about physical skills; it’s about strategy, mental toughness, and supporting each other.”
Let’s shift gears to the Grizzly basketball team. The recent $2,500 donation from the Fondation Richelieu Montmagny is fantastic news. How will this valuable contribution impact the team’s growth?
Coach Lavigne: “This generous donation will make a world of difference for our basketball program. We’re going to invest in upgrading our training equipment, which will allow our athletes to hone their skills even further.
We’ll also be able to improve our training facilities, creating a better environment for practices and team bonding. This support from the Fondation Richelieu Montmagny shows immense belief in our young athletes, and we’re steadfast to make them proud on and off the court.”
It’s clear that Louis-Jacques-Casault has a strong athletic program. Do you think these recent successes will inspire other students to get involved in sports?
Coach Lavigne: “I hope so! Seeing their peers excel can be incredibly motivating, showing what’s possible through hard work and dedication. We’re creating a culture of athletic excellence here at Louis-Jacques-Casault, and we hope to see even more students embrace the benefits of playing sports – not just the competition, but the camaraderie, discipline, and lifelong lessons it teaches.”
what advice would you give to young athletes who are just starting out?
Coach Lavigne: “Find a sport you truly enjoy and give it your all. Don’t be afraid to push your limits, learn from your mistakes, and celebrate your successes, big or small. Remember, sports teach us valuable life lessons, such as teamwork, perseverance, and resilience. embrace the journey, and have fun along the way!”
