the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has unveiled its impressive roster of candidates for the 2025 induction class. This year’s list boasts a constellation of basketball stars, including two-time Olympic gold medalist carmelo Anthony, three-time Defensive player of the Year Dwight Howard, and Spanish NBA champion Marc Gasol.
Joining these titans of the hardwood are WNBA icons Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Sylvia Fowles, and Chamique Holdsclaw, each leaving an indelible mark on the women’s game. The coaching ranks are equally distinguished, featuring Doc Rivers, currently leading the Milwaukee Bucks, and billy Donovan, at the helm of the Chicago Bulls.

The waiting period for eligible players has been reduced from three to two full seasons of retirement. Becky Hammon: Thanks for having me. It’s always exciting to see who’s being considered for the Hall of Fame. This year’s class is packed with talent.

Becky Hammon: I think it’s a fantastic move. It keeps the achievements of these unbelievable athletes fresh in everyone’s minds. We’re talking about players who inspired generations, and the sooner we recognize their impact, the better.
Moderator: I completely agree. It definitely puts a spotlight on their accomplishments while they’re still relevant in the minds of fans. Speaking of impactful players, Carmelo anthony is on the list. How do you see his chances?
becky Hammon: Melo is a lock, no question about it. A ten-time All-Star, Olympic gold medalist, and one of the greatest scorers of all time.his impact transcends statistics; he brought a unique style and flair to the game.
Moderator: No arguments there! Dwight Howard is another name generating buzz. Three-time Defensive Player of the Year, eight-time All-Star, he dominated the paint in his prime. Do you think he’ll get in on the first ballot?
Becky Hammon: Howard definitely deserves serious consideration. He was a force to be reckoned with, but I think there might be some debate around his overall impact compared to some other centers in history. It’s going to be interesting to see how the voters weigh his defensive prowess against his offensive contributions.
Moderator: That’s a good point. On the women’s side, this class is incredibly strong. Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Sylvia Fowles, and chamique Holdsclaw are all legends. Who do you see as the frontrunner?
Becky Hammon: Honestly, it’s like choosing between my own children! Each of these women redefined WNBA excellence. Bird’s longevity and championships are unmatched, Moore’s dominance was undeniable, Fowles was a force of nature, and Holdsclaw paved the way for so many. They’re all Hall of Famers in my book.
Moderator: This is a great year for coaches too, with doc Rivers and Billy Donovan on the ballot. How do you think their coaching legacies will be viewed by the voters?
Becky Hammon: Both Rivers and Donovan have achieved incredible things as head coaches. Rivers has an NBA championship under his belt and has consistently led teams to success,while Donovan has a strong track record of developing talent and building winning cultures. I think both have compelling cases for enshrinement.
