On December 17, 2024, the State Police seized over 300 paper bombs in Galatina. In particular, as part of the prevention services organized by the Lecce Police Headquarters, the agents of the Galatina PS Police Station with colleagues from the Southern Puglia Crime Prevention Department carried out numerous checks on commercial activities and people and carried out Judicial Police activities in the municipality of Galatina and its surroundings, identifying around 200 people and inspecting over 70 vehicles.
Furthermore, checks were carried out on patrons of 10 betting shops.
During the activity, two people were reported to the Judicial Authority, a 34-year-old from Galatina who had a baseball bat found in his car seized and detained without justified reason and a 65-year-old from Noha reported for possession and production of non-compliant pyrotechnic devices. comply with the law.
Inside the Noha home of a 65-year-old already known to the police and adjacent to other houses, after a thorough search, pyrotechnic devices with a total gross weight of over 20 kg were found in several places. .
In particular, over 300 homemade “paper bombs” that the man had assembled at home were found. In fact, material necessary for the packaging and subsequent sale to third parties of the paper bombs was found inside the same container: ignition fuses, primers and remote control units for remote triggering.
All the material found was subjected, with the intervention of specialized personnel from the Brindisi Border Police Bomb Squad, to criminal seizure and entrusted to a company authorized for transport and storage.
