The Sahuayo Championship 2024 drew a diverse field of competitors from across mexico. Teams representing San Luis Potosí, Cortázar (Guanajuato), Transformers (Saltillo, Coahuila), León (Guanajuato), Águilas (Tlaxcala), and the host team, The People’s from Sahuayo, all vied for the coveted title.
Ultimately, the León team from Guanajuato emerged victorious, claiming the championship title. Their victory underscores the high level of competition present at the tournament.

Welcome back, sports fans! Today, I’m thrilled to have Coach Ricardo ruiz join us. Coach Ruiz led the Hidalgo state wheelchair basketball team to a fantastic fourth-place finish at the recent Sahuayo Championship 2024. Coach, thanks for carving out some time for us.
Ruiz: It’s my pleasure to be here.
Moderator: Let’s jump right in. Hidalgo secured a top-five finish against stiff competition, facing teams from as far afield as Saltillo and Tlaxcala. What do you attribute this success to?
Ruiz: This team has shown incredible dedication and resilience. We started training months ago, focusing on both physical conditioning and strategic play. The athletes constantly pushed each other to improve, and that spirit of teamwork was evident throughout the tournament.
Moderator: That’s fantastic to hear. The Sahuayo Championship saw diverse talent from across Mexico.Did you notice any particular tactics or trends emerging amongst the competing teams?
Ruiz: Absolutely.The level of play was exceptionally high. Teams like León, the eventual champions, demonstrated incredibly precise passing and strong defense. offensively, we saw a lot of creativity in using screens and adapting to diffrent defensive strategies.
Moderator: Indeed, León’s victory must have been impressive.
Ruiz: It was well-deserved. They have a truly dynamic squad.
Moderator: Now, Coach, wheelchair basketball continues to gain recognition and participation. What do you think is driving the growth of this sport?
Ruiz: I think there’s a growing awareness of the athleticism and skill required in wheelchair basketball.it’s a fast-paced, demanding game that provides incredible opportunities for athletes of all abilities.
Moderator: I couldn’t agree more.Something else that truly shone through in this tournament was the sheer passion and determination of these athletes.
Ruiz: Without a doubt. Each player brought thier A-game, and the crowd’s energy was truly electrifying.
Moderator: Looking ahead, what are your hopes for the Hidalgo team, and for wheelchair basketball in general?
Ruiz: We aim to build on this success.We’re constantly striving to improve our game and compete at the highest level. I believe the future of wheelchair basketball is radiant,filled with talented athletes and passionate fans pushing the sport forward.
