Home Sports is the new multi-sports game from Resolution Games, already authors of Demeo and Racket Club, which tries to make you live the experience of Wii Sports in Mixed Reality. Will they have succeeded in the arduous task? or will it be yet another game with nothing to say? Let’s find out together in this review.
The guys at Resolution Games with Home Sports have decided to bring the lightheartedness and immediacy of games like Wii Sportswithin a completely new stage, that of mixed reality viewers. And it is clear from the first start how everything is inspired by the party game of the great N.
Once the game has started we will have to set up our game area, this can be of three sizes: Standard, Large or ExtraLarge. It must be said, however, that although the play area is designed to adapt more or less to the dimensions of a normal room, given that we will be moving around a lot within the play area, even the Standard size may not be small enough to allow you to play in peace without the risk of bumping into some furniture. Even I, who play all VR titles without problems, was forced to change rooms to have as much space as possible.
In addition to the career mode which will serve almost exclusively to familiarize you with the various sports presentbut which will still be a good pastime thanks also to the good characterization of the various characters who will accompany us throughout our journey, we will be able to face challenges against the CPUchanging the difficulty based on our level and then move on to the main mode of the entire production, namely multiplayer.
There are five sports available pickleball, hockey, bowling, miniature golf and badminton.
Pickleball is a racket sport and has very similar rules to tennis; the field is also very similar, except for the latter’s smaller dimensions. You must score 11 points to win a set, for a maximum of 3 sets.
Hockey, unlike real games, will pit you against each other with rules very similar to table hockeythat is, hitting the puck with our stick without going beyond our half of the field and trying to score a goal inside the opponent’s goal.
Bowling is perhaps the most faithfully reproducedwith the track in front of us and the machinery used to supply us with balls next to us, allowing us to physically move around to pick up our ball, as we would do in reality, and then throw it at the pins in the hope of being able to play the perfect game .
Minigolf, unlike the others, is perhaps the least successful; in fact the playing field will materialize in front of us and every time we throw the ball, the playing field will automatically reposition itself at the point where the ball fell. Unfortunately this choice, despite being a good expedient within the structure created by the guys at Resolution Games, is not very immersive within a mixed reality game.
And finally Badminton, one of the fastest racket sports there is, thanks to its fast rallies in which, unlike tennis, the shuttlecock must never touch the ground. As with pickleball, the playing field will also be smaller than the tennis court, to encourage greater speed at the shuttlecock.
All sports, in addition to the classic match, will also have minigames available. These minigames they will allow us to refine our technique, trying to obtain the best score every time and thus beat our previous records. For example, in badminton we will have to knock down as many balloons in the shortest time as possible or in pickleball try to score as many points as possible by hitting targets.
Obviously, don’t expect a simulation game in Home Sports; in fact, although some sports are more complex to master, the spirit still remains that of an arcade game to be played alone by up to a maximum of four players, both locally and online.
The game itself has no particular flawsapart from a few small bugs which however do not affect the overall experience of the title, managing to keep the promise of being a fun title, to be played in the company of friends or for an occasional game in your spare time.
In conclusion, Home Sports is a fun title that will help you relive the light-heartedness of games like Wii Sports. However, its gaming formula focused almost exclusively on multiplayer may not be appreciated by everyone. Even the sports present, as fun as they are, could quickly tire you out. However, it remains a more than recommended purchase for those looking for a fun game, able to use their home as a playground and who love playing in company.
