Newly elected duo works together behind the scenes at Flamengo
Flamengo has two new presidents for the three-year period from 2025 to 2027: Luiz Eduardo Baptista (Bap) on the board and Ricardo Lomba on the Deliberative Council (CoDe). Both worked together in electoral campaigns and now intend to ‘revolutionize’ Rubro-Negro. As? Changing the club’s statutes.

Heading CoDe, Lomba has the power to prioritize or ‘shelve’ some proposals for change. Therefore, Bap intends to use the ally to expedite significant changes to Flamengo’s statute, created in August 1992. The main change that the new presidents preached throughout the campaign is the reduction of mandatory vice-presidenciesprep, which is seen internally as a ‘revolution’.
THE IDEA IS “TOTAL PROFESSIONALIZATION”
The proposal, in the view of Bap’s ticket, seeks to strengthen the professionalization of operations at Flamengo. In other words, the idea is to reduce the influence of figures without direct technical ties to the administration. In this way, members of the new president’s management are already preparing the documentation to propose the change in the statute.
With or without the change, Bap decided that in Football, for example, Flamengo will have a completely professional department. In other words, the new president will not have a vice-president in his portfolio, as Marcos Braz was during the six years of Rodolfo Landim’s administration.
Without a vice-president of football, the ‘revolution’ desired by Bap aims to place technical professionals in all portfolio positions. Therefore, still continuing in Football, José Boto will be the department’s technical director, with full control over the sector’s operations. So, the directors designated for Communication, Marketing, New Business and Olympic Sports, for example, will only respond to Bap.
IMPORTANCE OF CODE IN THE PROCESS
Bap sees the election for the Deliberative Council as a key piece in the management’s plans to implement these structural changes at Flamengo. Not surprisingly, the new red-black president acted as Lomba’s electoral leader for last Monday’s vote (16). This is because, if Álvaro Ferreira, a member of the opposition, had won, the progress of Bap’s ideas could have been halted at times.
“I know the responsibility of taking on such important advice. I would like to thank Bap who supported me from the beginning, there were several support groups, and this is very important, because we managed to unite groups from all segments of Flamengo”said Lomba, shortly after being elected president of CoDe, still at the Rubro-Negro headquarters.
