Victoria Diez is the reference for women’s raspall. At only 23 years old, she seems like a veteran who already houses seven individual titlesin addition to a Caixabank League, achieved this year together with Isabel, and three Cups. A record that many will not achieve even when they have retired and that the player, born in Valencia, already boasts despite being so young.
The Valencian came to the pilot because at her school, the Tomás de Montañana in Valencia, there were facilities for pediment, galotxetes and minitrinquet. He tried it one day when they wanted to send him to watch a movie while the little ones ate during patio time. Little Victoria preferred to go hit the pilot for a while with his twin brother, Carlos, and they began to get hooked.
They began to play regularly in the hour they had free while the little ones ate and they also began to ‘snack’ at home. From third to sixth grade he competed in the Municipal Schools of Valencia championships. organized by the Valencian Pilot Federation (FPV) until Ana Belén, who was his coach, encouraged him to try out at the Borbotó Club when he was already in sixth grade.

“I loved playing with my brother, I was competing in Jocs Esportius with him until I started playing with Mar. I knew her from playing against each other in the championships and I suggested going to train with her. He was much better than me, for me he was my reference at the beginning and I had to play against her or against Ana Puertes. Shortly after, I went to train at CPV Rafelbunyol and started competing together with Mar for CPV Bicorp,” explains Victoria Diez.
The seven-time Individual champion began to grow in her game and, although she started out as a mitgera and Mar as a remainder, the tables soon changed. He made a leap in quality that he has shown since he was 16 years old and won his first Individual. Since then, seven titles out of eight possible and champion of the last six editions. A record that has taken her to number one of the brush.
“She is the player with whom I have best complemented myself. I have been able to win many championships with her, although now I find it difficult to put us together again,” Victoria jokes. “Since I was little I realized that I was good at piloting, but I never imagined I would get to where I am now,” adds the rest of 23 years.
Recover to continue winning
Victoria has not been able to play the last Pro1 women’s raspall cup because she was injured. He has been dealing with a shoulder injury for some time that has forced him to stop. He is already facing the final stretch of recovery, but for the pilot, it is very important play without pain to return to who I was and enjoy the trinquet.
“If my shoulder allows it, I want to win the Individual again, which is my goal every year. It is the tournament that I like the most and of course I want to continue at the top, but the most important thing now is recover from my shoulder and play without pain and not suffering like these last few months,” concludes Victoria Diez.
