“it’s just Baseball, Right?” Jeremy peña Discusses In-Game Interviews and the Pressure Cooker of the Major Leagues
Welcome back, sports fans! Today, we have a very special guest, Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña. Jeremy, thanks for joining us.
jeremy: Thanks for having me.
Moderator: Let’s jump right in.Recently, you made headlines during an in-game interview when a fly ball took a tricky hop, leading to a misplay [[1]]. What was going through your mind during that moment, especially with the cameras rolling?
Jeremy: Honestly, it was just one of those plays that was going a million miles an hour.
The ball took a weird hop, and before I knew it, it was past me. I don’t think being on camera had anything to do with it. At that moment, it’s just about trying to make the play and move on.
Moderator: Now, some people might say being interviewed during a live game can be a distraction. Do you find it difficult to concentrate with the added pressure?
Jeremy: You know, I actually like it. It’s a chance to connect with the fans, share a bit of what’s going on in the moment. It’s not always easy, but it’s part of the game now, and I try to embrace it.
Moderator: I admire the resilience, especially playing for a team like the Astros, where the pressure to perform is always high. Does the magnitude of the situation ever feel overwhelming?
Jeremy: Every game is important, and we know fans have high expectations. But I try to focus on the process, on each individual play, rather than get caught up in the bigger picture. We have a great team here, a family atmosphere, and that helps us stay grounded.
Moderator: Speaking of fans,do you think these in-game interviews give fans a better understanding of what players go through?
Jeremy: I think they give a glimpse into the reality of the game. it’s not always perfect plays and highlight reels. There are challenges, mistakes, and moments of doubt, just like in anyone’s job.
Moderator: looking ahead, what are your goals for the rest of the season?
Jeremy: Our goal is always to compete for a championship. This team has the talent and the drive to do something special. We just need to stay healthy and focused.
(Moderator): jeremy, thank you for your honest and insightful answers. Keep up the great work, and we look forward to watching you throughout the rest of the season.
