IN THE DEATH OF GIORGIO GANDOLFI AND FIORENZO ALBORGHETTI » Ennio Tardini Stadium Parma

(Gmajo) – At dinner time, two sad pieces of news reach me: in strict order of arrival, the sudden death, at 64 years old, of Fiorenzo Alborghetti, the manager (formerly CFO of Cartiere Pigna) who had supported Gianpiero Manenti when he he had purchased Parma FC, for one euro, from Rezart Taci. A sort of guarantor for the unpresentable Mapi Man, the serious face of a prank operation, if there had been something to laugh about. Having slipped away from the unlikely project early enough, he was already out of the running when Manenti was arrested.

This was followed by the death, after illness, of Giorgio Gandolfi, born in 1938 – he would have turned 86 on 28 December – the first press officer in the history of Parma Calcio, coinciding with the transfer of ownership of Parma AC from the Ceresini family to Parmalat. Previously, the general secretary Sergio Canuti was in charge of relations with the press. Because of his care for his colleagues, I gave him a nickname that made him a fortune “The Diligent”which some good-natured people would then imprint on a match shirt given to him. He followed the entire epic of the legendary Parma of Mister Nevio Scala, giving life to the periodical Parma Look and several books on European cups (in addition to the many history books Crociata a quattro mani with Gian Franco Bellè) before leaving the place – after the reshuffle which brought Stefano Tanzi to the presidency in place of Giorgio Pedraneschi, and Rocky Sogliano to replace Giambattista Pastorello as general director – to Giorgio Bottaro. A professional journalist since 1965, Gandolfi – as FIBS recalls – was a footballer, baseball player (debut in Serie A in Nettuno) and referee in his youth, but his passion further developed through the newspapers in which he worked : the internship at Gazzetta di Parmathen professionalism at Tuttosport and then at La Stampa, where he was for 27 years, 18 of which were a permanent correspondent in Milan following Milan, Inter and the transfer market. During his career he covered the football World Cup and the Olympics. He was the only journalist to write about baseball in 6 different newspapers: Gazzetta di Parma, Tuttosport, La Stampa, Stampa Sera, Gazzetta del Popolo, La Nazione. He collaborated with the ANSA agency and founded the magazine in the 1960s Tutto baseballwhich later became the website tuttobaseball.it, He has to his credit, in tandem with Enzo di Gesù, the Baseball Almanacs and above all the Baseball Encyclopedia. Award finalist Sports stall con The Kings of football e The goal twins (with Darwin Pastorin), he wrote about ten books. Gabriele Maja
