One more year, from the Con Eles Association for the Care of People with Intellectual Disabilities, they made their reality visible through sport, more specifically basketball, thus showing society that people with disabilities are also part of it. In recent years, inclusion in the community has become the reason for the work of all organizations, and for this reason, Con Eles wanted to raise their voice on the International Day of People with Intellectual Disabilities.
The truth is that the association has a long relationship with the sport of basket ball, participating through the multi-sports club of the special education school, in the competitions organized by the Galician Federation of Adapted Sports, for more than 20 years. Likewise, in 2013, together with Special Olympics, they also co-organized the Special Olympics Autonomous Games. After the pandemic, the inclusion program “Community Sports” was developed, together with the CLB, with the initiative of Special Olympics Spain, for two seasons.
For this reason, yesterday they held an inclusive basketball day in which joint teams from the Sports Club of the Special Education School participated. During the day, players from the senior category of the Cortegada Sports Association and Basket Base Club also participated, who have been part of the CLB quarry project for more than 10 years.
In this way, the players from the Women’s League 2, such as Ewelina and the 1st National Division, along with the players from the 1st and 3rd Autonomous Division of the CLB, such as Choren, joined with the players from the Special Education Sports Club , forming unified teams that played against each other in mini-matches at the Fontecarmoa Municipal Pavilion, under the orders of the coaches of both clubs.
Similarly, at the Sara Gómez, different activities related to ball skills were also carried out in pairs, in which some players were able to help others to improve their goals. Likewise, the development of said activity was open to the public, so the stands of the municipal pavilion also experienced a peaceful day of basketball, and above all, of inclusion.
