Italian Rowers Dominate World Indoor Championships
The 2024 World Indoor Rowing Championships, held in Prague, witnessed a remarkable performance from the Italian team. Competing in both remote and in-person formats, italian athletes secured an extraordinary haul of medals, showcasing their prowess in the sport.
Pararowing proved to be a particularly strong suit for Italy. Marta Piccininno of CC Irno delivered a stunning display, shattering her own world record in the women’s 2000 meters PR3-II with a time of 8.13.5, a remarkable five-second enhancement. Her teammate,Carolina Foresti from RYC Savoia,narrowly missed out on gold in the women’s 2000 meters PR3,securing a well-deserved silver medal.
the men’s PR3 category also saw success for Italy, with Marco Frank of VVF Ravalico claiming the silver medal. In the 23-39 Lightweight sprint, Martino Goretti (Moto Guzzi) shared the bronze medal with Egyptian rower Ahmed Meshref.The Masters category saw further Italian triumphs. Emanuele romoli (Pro Sport) dominated the 2000 meters Lightweight 65-69 men’s event, securing gold. Anna Girotto (San Cristoforo) added to the medal tally with a bronze in the 2000 meters challenge for 40-44 Lightweight women.
Day two of the championships brought even more success for Italy.Piccininno continued her winning streak, setting a new world record of 1.47.0 in the women’s 500 meters PR3-II. Carolina Foresti also claimed gold in the women’s 500 meters PR3, while Emanuele Romoli secured his second gold medal in the Masters category, winning the men’s 65-69 Lightweight 500 meters.
Marco Frank added a silver medal to his collection in the men’s PR3 final. Two more silver medals came from the Masters category, with Paolo Fabrizi (CC Roma) in the 55-59 Lightweight category and Francesco Procaccianti (DLF Chiusi) in the 40-44 Men’s Lightweight category. Francesca de Tiberiis (CC Rome) rounded off the medal haul with a bronze in the women’s Lightweight 50-54 category.
