Zamora Hosts National Archery Tournament, Welcoming Archers from Across Spain
The Ciudad Deportiva de Zamora’s Pabellón Azul transformed into a hub for archery enthusiasts on Sunday morning, drawing nearly a hundred archers and their supporters from all corners of Spain.The venue hosted the prestigious XXIV Torneo Nacional de Navidad and the XI Trofeo Reny Picot, showcasing the skill and passion of archers nationwide.
As early as 8:30 am, archers began gathering outside the pavilion, eager to prepare their equipment. Far from the romanticized image of customary archery, modern archers meticulously adjusted their bows, arrows, sights, stabilizers, and a myriad of other specialized gear.
The C.D.arqueros Zamora, renowned for its meticulous organization, once again ensured a seamless and enjoyable experience for all participants. Upon arrival, archers were greeted with a warm welcome, including complimentary coffee, milk, hot chocolate, and churros to fuel their competitive spirit. Each participant also received a gift bag filled with contributions from generous sponsors, a gesture deeply appreciated by the club.
The event, sanctioned by World Archery, guaranteed that any records achieved would be officially recognized. A team of judges from Asturias, Salamanca, and Soria oversaw the competition, providing invaluable support and guidance to both archers and organizers.
Archers competed in a variety of disciplines, including recurve, compound, traditional, longbow, and barebow, with both male and female categories. While the primary category was senior, participants from lower age groups were also welcome to join the competition.
Representing Zamora, eighteen local archers from the city’s club participated in all categories except barebow.Their performance was commendable,with three Zamoran archers claiming victory and another securing a second-place finish.
The atmosphere was festive and celebratory, with many archers embracing the holiday spirit by donning festive attire.

Zamora recently hosted a thrilling archery weekend, featuring two prestigious tournaments: the XXIV Torneo Nacional and the XI Trofeo Reny Picot.
The XXIV Torneo Nacional, a qualifying event for the Spanish Championship, saw notable performances from local archers.Jara Bartolomé dominated the women’s recurve category,securing the top spot,followed closely by her clubmate,Beatriz Manso. In the men’s recurve division, Álvaro Artime emerged victorious, while Benjamín Rodríguez claimed the gold medal in the traditional bow category with an outstanding score.
The excitement continued with the XI Trofeo Reny Picot, affectionately known as “the cheese tournament” within the archery community. This unique mixed-gender competition tests archers’ composure under pressure. Participants must achieve progressively higher scores with each set of three arrows, facing elimination with a single misstep. Reaching the final stages requires nerves of steel, as even seasoned archers can falter when the target score nears 30 points.
Jara Bartolomé once again showcased her exceptional skill and composure, claiming victory in the recurve category and taking home the coveted cheese prize. Pedro rodríguez from Salamanca triumphed in the compound bow division, while Emilio Antuña from Asturias secured the Longbow title. Sara Herrero from Benavente emerged victorious in the traditional bow category, adding her name to the list of cheese-winning archers.
The weekend culminated in a fun-filled “surprise shot” event. Each archer randomly selected a sealed envelope containing a number corresponding to a gift.The gifts were placed on their shooting stands, and archers had three arrows to hit their designated target. Every participant walked away with a prize, ensuring a joyful conclusion to the archery festivities.
The closing ceremony featured the presentation of trophies and was attended by Manuel Alesandre, the councilor for sports, and Juan del Canto, the provincial deputy for sports. Both dignitaries commended the club for its excellent organization and thanked the participants for choosing Zamora as the venue for this exciting archery event.
