Vila took up the position of general director of the Fundació la Caixa five years ago, in 2019, replacing Jaume Giró, who would later become Minister of Economy and currently deputy for Junts. The Caixa Banking Foundation, which will lead Coronas, has the largest budget in Spain and Europe for a social project, with 600 million euros.

Fundació Bancària la Caixa owns CriteriaCaixa, a holding that includes stakes in CaixaBank, Naturgy, Telefónica and other companies. With the dividends that these companies pay to CriteriaCaixa, the holding provides resources to Fundació La Caixa for its social work. Both CriteriaCaixa and Fundació la Caixa have as president Isidre Fainé.
