On November 29th, 2024, the 1st Viernheimer Judo Club eV organized a judo safari for all children and young people up to and including 14 years of age.
What does safari actually mean? Safari translates to “journey”. A total of 19 judoka began their journey in the Schillerschule hall and were accompanied by “Movelino”, the mascot of the German Youth Sports Association.
The Judo Safari is divided into three parts. The first part is the Japanese tournament, in which fights are close to weight and you can use your experienced judo knowledge. The second part is the creative part. The children and young people had 10 minutes to paint a picture that had to do with judo and the term safari.
The athletics part was divided into three categories. There was a sprint competition, forearm support and medicine ball throw.
So that the participants from 5 to 14 years of age could be assessed fairly, there were three age groups in which they could compete accordingly. During the event there were stickers and skin tattoos, as well as a jungle drink.
After the points have been evaluated, each participant receives a safari sticker sheet, a certificate and a patch, which can then be worn on the judo suit. The patch shows animals in different colors, analogous to the belt colors.
The 1.Viernheimer Judo Club would like to thank all participants and of course also the volunteers, without whom this implementation would not have been possible.
